Our Portfolio

Each community generation project is owned and managed by our members who invest in the project installation, sell the electricity generated to the grid, or in our case to a host site, and share the profits.

Projects can be any renewable or alternative energy source, including hydro, solar, geothermal or wind.

Participation in community generation projects gives anyone the ability to support renewable energy projects and keep revenue within our community.

Current projects

On Sept 17, 2021, Jeff Roberts from BVGEC and Rev. Greg Wooley of Ralph Connor Memorial United Church flipped the switch and energized an 11kW solar photovoltaic system on the roof of RCMUC.

This is the first community-owned renewable energy generation system in the Bow Valley and the first community-owned solar panels in Alberta!

I-Place Phase 1

On Nov 7, 2022, Toby Brodkorb from BVGEC and Donna Landi representing I-Place flipped the switch and energized a 127kW solar photovoltaic system on the roof of the new I-Place mixed-use development in Canmore.

Thanks to SBL Contractors for helping make this unique project a reality!

The Bow Valley Green Energy Co-op, Baymag Inc. and KCP Energy are thrilled to announce that together they have financed and installed the largest solar array in the MD of Bighorn at the Baymag plant in Exshaw.

The 291 kW photovoltaic system is located on the rooftop of one of the process buildings at Baymag's operation near Exshaw.

The team anticipates this installation will generate up to 300,000 KWH of renewable electricity per year and eliminate 240 Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide from Alberta's electricity grid annually.

On November 8, 2023, the Bow Valley Green Energy Co-op and Temple B’nai Tikvah began producing solar energy on our fourth solar installation and our first community-owned installation in the City of Calgary!

This project resulted from a collaboration between BVGEC, Temple B’nai Tikvah, the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley, The Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition, and the Alberta Ecotrust Foundation,
